Why isn’t Mama with her? She’s been walking this harbor all alone for what seems like hours. Cathy is here with her mother. Where’s Harley’s?
Her lips wobble as her eyes start to burn. Her vision goes blurry with the sudden influx of tears.
She misses her Mama.
“Oh, no, no, honey, it’s okay,” Candace coos, her arms reaching forward for Harley.
“I understand it must be very scary for you. It’s okay, though. You aren’t alone anymore.”
Candace goes to hug Harley and the latter pauses, her tears reduced to just sniffles. She smells like vanilla. It’s a very nice smell. The scent quickly wafts over her sadness. She remembers Mama smelling similar to Candace too.
It feels like her Mama is here with her.
“How are you feeling?” Candace asks after a few moments of gentle pats whispering words of assurance.
Harley rubs the tears away from her eyes.
“Better.”
“That’s good!” Candace exclaims. “Now that you calmed down, why don’t you try and explain the situation to me again, for me to better understand and help you.”
Explain what happened.
