“I…don’t know where my Mama is. I’m trying to find her, you see.”
Candace drops her jaw in shock. “You can’t find your mother? Oh dear, this isn’t good,” she says hastily as she straightens and peers around the harbor on both sides.
“There’s no one else in sight. And it’s getting very late. Where and when did you last see her?”
“I don’t know.”
“You don’t know?”
“I don’t remember exactly.”
Candace stares in silent concern.
“I woke up at this harbor way over that way,” Harley says pointing to her right. Candace glances in the direction.
“And I’ve been walking this whole time trying to find my way home. I think I’ll find my Mama that way.”
“Why isn’t your mommy over here though?” Cathy speaks for the first time since her initial greeting. Candace hushes her daughter in hopes of placating her but it’s too late.
The thought is planted and is now festering in little Harley's mind.
