Memories

Candace bites her lips and then smiles. “No, it’s nothing, Harley. Tell you what. Why don’t you come with me and Cathy? We spent the whole day shopping at this harbor and we’re getting ready to head home now. I’m going to cook a big feast for dinner tonight. It’s already really dark out and I’m sure you’re starving.”

Harley’s tummy growls at the mention of food.

Candace smiles wider and her kind eyes crinkle at the ends, radiating a warmth that quells the bitter cold of the harbor winds.

“Would you like that?”

Cathy perks up from her mother’s side, far more energetic than moments prior at the idea of Harley coming over to her home. “We can play with dolls after we eat too!”

Harley stays still in shock at the offer. They’re inviting her to their home? It sounds like a great idea. She is hungry after walking for who knows how long at the harbor and with only wearing a sundress, her arms are covered in goosebumps from the chilling cold. A warm dinner and a warm house.

But their home isn’t her home.

Maybe just for tonight?
You still have to find Mama.
