“But…I still have to find my Mama,” Harley mumbles with wavering sadness. She still has a mission to find her way home and find Mama as soon as possible.
“I understand, honey. But it’s getting very late and a little girl like you shouldn’t be out here all alone. It’s very dangerous.”
Harley bites her and stares at the ground. Candace is right.
“You could get hurt. And you say you don’t remember how to get home. It will be very difficult to find your Mama all on your own.”
She is right on that too.
“You can stay over at our place and when morning comes, I can take you to the station and help you find your mother. There’s no need to worry anymore.”
“You’ll really help me find my Mama?” Harley questions with awe.
“I’ll help you in whatever way I can,” Candace replies.
“Come on, let’s go already! I’m getting hungry too and it’s cold out here,” Cathy interjects, jumping at the balls of her feet and tugging at her mother’s arm.
Candace laughs and stands up straight, readjusting her bags to her shoulder as she takes Cathy’s little hand.
“Come now, Harley. Let’s go,” she says, reaching her other hand for Harley.
Harley stares at the offered hand and smiles brightly as she softly grabs it.
She now remembers what it’s like to hold a mother’s hand.
