Memories

“Can you help me, Mister Sailor? I need to head home and find my Mama!” Harley shouts back.

“Eh? You don’ know where your Mama is?” the sailor asks, scratching his head.

“Now what kinda irresponsible child strays away from their Mama and gets themselves lost?”

Harley shrinks back at the insensitive comment and feels the pool of guilt stir with an uncomfortable mix of shame.

The sailor is right.

This is likely all her fault in the first place.

Maybe she was with her Mama and ended up getting lost by leaving her side. And her Mama decided to just leave her be, not wanting to have a child who disobeyed and was stupid enough to get herself lost in such a big place.

This is all Harley’s fault.

She’s never going to see her Mama again.
